Connecting Common Core and Community for the Whole Child:
A Community Conversation
The United States is one of the few developed countries lacking common standards for its public schools – leaving most decisions about curriculum and content up to states. The result: a hodgepodge of current state assessments, which vary so significantly it is impossible to compare test scores from different states.
Forty-eight of the 50 states, including Arkansas, have now adopted and are beginning to implement the Common Core Standards. Common standards will help ensure students are receiving a high quality education consistently from school to school and state to state.
The Arkansas Department of Education, in partnership with Arkansas ASCD and the Common Core State Standards Guiding Coalition, hosted a statewide conversation Thursday, March 8, to raise awareness about how our children and communities will benefit from this transition.
